Meditation is the best medicine, which is preferred by every one for mental depression and tension. Success falls at the side of a student, who practices meditation regularly. Meditation is good for all the ages, especially it is very important for students because this stage determines future life. Students can obtain lot of benefits through meditation. Peace of mind, good sustainability, good health, concentration and attention are some of the major outcomes of meditation.
The basic tenets of meditation — relaxation and breathing — can be difficult to master in our hectic lives, but if you’re able to find just a few minutes a day, that’s all you need to get started.
Benefits of meditation include stress reduction, sharpened concentration, and improved circulation to start. Once you begin to practice, you’ll soon experience a quieter mind, a more open heart, and a sense of inner freedom. Not only does meditating make the brain sharper, it also helps to make it a more harmonious unit: university students who took up meditation were found to have changes in the fibers in the brain area related to regulating emotions and behavior.
Doing meditation leads to significant reductions in depressive symptoms (an average of 48% lower than the non-meditating control group). Studies looking at both students and adults find that daily Transcendental Meditation practice greatly reduces both substance abuse problems and antisocial behavior. In many cases, TM has been shown to be two or three times more effective than traditional drug prevention and education programs.
Stay healthy! Regular meditation practice helps students to reduce blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. It will all pay back in years to come. As one study showed, students formerly at-risk of hypertension witnessed a major change in blood pressure already after a few months of meditating. These changes were associated with a 52% lower risk of developing hypertension later in their life.
Simple steps to start meditation: Follow these steps and feel the power of meditation:-
1. Sit at peaceful place.
Find some place where you feel best and no one can disturb you! To get started, it doesn’t matter whether you sit or lay down as long as you are comfortable. You can sit cross-legged, on the floor, or on a chair. If you can sit erect, then great. If not, it’s just important to have your body in a somewhat stable position. Then have the palms of your hands face the sky.
2. Use ‘Visualization’ and Feel ‘Present’
Become totally aware of your current surroundings. What do you hear? How does it feel to sit? Do you feel tension? Where are your thoughts?
3. Focus on your breath and soul.
As you take long and deep breaths, feel your breath move from your lungs and out through your nostrils or your throat. (Breathing through your nostrils is better though either will work). Your mind will wonder (which is okay), just try your best to be as focused as possible.
4. Feel your mind and body.
Once you’re focused, take notice of your body and how each body part feels. Start with the toes and work your way up to your head. If your mind continues to wonder then bring your thoughts back to your breath. Breath 5 to 10 times with full concentration on each breath. Take it a step further and hum “Om” as you breathe out.
5. Use Sanskrit Mantra and ‘Pranayama'(Special for students)
There are many mantras in Sanskrit language which helps in meditation and nourish our mind. Using these techniques can help to meditate in right way.Practice is very important for meditation. Like anything, practice makes perfect. Make sure to carve out a time each and every day to practice.
Meditation is as important as eating, drinking, sleeping and going to the bathroom. Time or no time, we know that these activities are essential for our life. If you want to feel good about yourself then you should start meditating. Therefore, if mentally we give the same importance to meditation, then we should find the time to meditate. The important thing is, keep in your mind all the time, if you believe in the efficacy of meditation, you must create a habit of it. Meditation in the morning and/or in the evening can certainly make a big difference in our life.
